About the event
Join us for a screening of landmark U.S. labor film Salt of the Earth (1954), the only film in American history where each stage of production and distribution was upturned and impeded by almost every level of government and police enforcement in the country. As a defiantly communist, feminist, anti-racist film produced at the height of the Red Scare, it was denounced by Congress and promptly suppressed—only to re-emerge as relevant and bracingly modern as ever.
Admission a screening of: SALT OF THE EARTH (1954) is by Sliding-Scale Donation $5-15. All-Inclusive Tickets for the Dinner, and Curated Beverages (including Tej!) after the film are $85. Doors for the screening open at 5pm, Film begins at 5:15pm, The Dinner Party by A Taste of Abyssinia, (Semifinalist for the 2023 James Beard Award!) will be held before the film at 6:45 pm.
