Harold and Maude tells the story of how a young man (Bud Cort) who is obsessed with death and despondent over his wealthy family’s conservative morals and patriotic militarism, becomes transformed after meeting a vivacious and radically free-thinking bohemian octogenarian (Ruth Gordon). Equal parts gallows humor and romantic innocence, Harold and Maude dissolves the line between darkness and light along with the ones that separate people by class, gender, and age.
